Crews rescue whale entangled in rope

- A team with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration helped free an entangled humpback whale near Maui.

The captain of a fishing boat first spotted the whale last Thursday.

A day later, rescue crews were on scene trying to pull out a braided line caught in its mouth. The braided line reportedly measured more than 285 feet.

In this video, part of it can be seen trailing behind the whale in the water.  Crews said they were able to successfully pull the rope out of its mouth the next day.

The N.O.A.A. said the whale has an excellent chance of survival.

Crews will now be analyzing the braided rope to determine where it came from.
