Assignment Planning Editor
Responsibilities: Independently generate news stories within KTVU’s standards and guidelines. Research and develop local news stories and guest segments. Monitor wire services, emails, phone beats, radios, social media sites etc., for breaking news stories and relevant content that can be used to enhance FOX 2 newscasts. At the direction of news management, and also working independently, gather background material and set-up news stories and segments for on-air broadcasts. Independently evaluate and list newsworthy events in computerized assignment planning files and coordinate in studio and remote segments that tie-in with local issues and events. Work closely with news team to plan coverage of news events and special coverage on various topics of interest to the Bay Area. Work with FOX station group and other affiliated partners and outside agencies to provide video for feeds and/or coordinate coverage of segments and events. Provide direction to news crews in the field where necessary. Maintain a future file and beat check for news material. Work with news staff to gather elements needed for news segment and online content. Work closely with newscast producers to develop vision for on air segments. Develop outside news sources and contacts. Work with the news management team on continuing efforts to upgrade the news generating capabilities of KTVU. Must be aware of the development and urgency of news events and have the ability to cover and translate those stories into maximum viewer interest. Contribute ideas to station’s social media platforms, creating content and breaking news on various platforms. Other duties assigned as deemed necessary and appropriate.
Requirements: Associated degree (or equivalent) in Journalism or Communications from a college or university plus major market TV assignment editor experience is required. Strong communication skills, both written and oral, required. Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge and understanding of the latest ways to utilize social media, both as a news gathering tool and to communicate with our audience.

Responsibilities: KTVU is seeking candidates for a Studio Technician. Primary duties will include professional operation of electronic equipment used in connection with television broadcasting for the generation of the aural and visual TV signal in conformance to station policies and practices. Operate Master Control, TOC (Technical Operations Center) and other areas that contain automated equipment. Grass Valley iTX in live/manual situations with multiple channels. Duties include commercial ingest, segmenting shows from multiple sources, tuning in live shots from ENG/SNG trucks in the field as well as satellite programming, bonded cellular devices (LiveU), breaking news support, and emergency news crawls. Will be responsible for quality of products, Tower Light observations, EAS tests, Closed Captioning, station logs, FCC transmitter compliance and reporting for multiple channels. This position requires flexible schedules that may include any of three shifts, weekends and holidays. Other duties assigned as deemed appropriate and necessary.
Qualifications: Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous television Master Control experience in an automated environment is required. Must be skilled in on-air automation and file based ingest, transfer and playback functions. Must communicate clearly and work well with other departments. Must be able to operate personal computers and various software programs; such as Outlook, Microsoft Office, and others. Responsibilities: The producer gathers and selects news content, writes and copy edits stories, assembles the stories into a rundown, and creates graphics and visuals to complement the presentation of material for the on-air broadcast and digital platforms. This includes generating story ideas, writing and/or producing packages for air. Work closely with News Managers, Assignment Desk, news reporters and other newsroom employees on story conception and development and execution of story. Create and write content for digital platforms that cross-promote and/or supplement station’s news gathering efforts. Participate in editorial meetings, contributing ideas and innovative ways to present material. Producers will also be assigned to produce or oversee special projects, productions, or live coverage of station-sponsored events. Other duties assigned as deemed appropriate and necessary.
Requirements: The producer must be able to write news copy clearly, in broadcast style, for on-air, online, and other digital platforms. Must be able to assemble news material in a logical and organized fashion and present finished stories in a professional and engaging manner for viewers/readers to be able to comprehend the latest local, national and international news. Strong writing and producing skills are essential. Ability to contribute ideas on a daily basis and to recognize what types of stories would make for interesting and compelling television and online content. Ability to adapt to a fast paced quickly changing environment and react in live situations to cover breaking news, etc. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with peers and supervisors and to develop contacts outside the building to aid in newsgathering. The producer must be enterprising and self-motivated and be able to work independently to develop newscast or assigned production. Requires a thorough understanding of all journalistic standards and broadcast production techniques used to create visual and compelling on-air and online content. Bachelor’s Degree in journalism or related field required. Must have experience producing TV newscasts (minimum of 2 years). Familiarity with Bit Central, iNews and Edius a plus. News ENG Photographer
Responsibilities: KTVU is seeking a News ENG Photographer to clearly and creatively record news events and perform ENG operations so the story may be effectively conveyed to the viewers in a complete, factual, timely and professional manner Must have a professional level of skill in lighting and audio operations in the field. Operate, service, and maintain in proper working order electronic equipment provided for the execution of assignments. Must be familiar with ENG technology and microwave transmission in order to carry out live shots. Must conduct wide range of ENG operations with a clear understanding of safety procedures. Must be able to edit in the field under pressure and be familiar with non-linear editing. Seek out and shoot live action, breaking news stories, monitor 2-way radio from newsroom and monitor police scanners for information on news stories. Drive reporters to the scene of live, breaking news stories and to locations to shoot stories for later use on News programs. Carry out the instructions of the Assignment Desk and Newsroom Managers. May occasionally be required to photograph scenes from an airplane or helicopter or fly to an assignment in such an aircraft. Assignments may include out of market and overnight travel. Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of three years of professional News Camera experience is required or equivalent combination of education and experience. Responsibilities: Writes, produces and/or, tags local and regional commercials. Meets with clients and sales account executives to brainstorm concepts and help develop budgets per department guidelines. Administers entire projects including shooting, editing, picking music, and coordinating talent, artwork, scripts, sound effects, dubbing and traffic follow-through. Keeps monthly Retail reports for sales and other special reports as required by VP of Creative Services. Supervises selection of shooting locations, coordinates scripts between department and client and all post production activities. Coordinates production scheduling with Creative Services, Program Services and other station departments. Assist local and national sales with production services as necessary, e.g., Billboards, sales presentations, real and spec spots. Responsible for monthly client billing, as needed.Also responsible for concepting, writing, producing, editing and designing high-end station image, and sports promotion destined to capture viewer’s attention. Final product could be used on-air, online or on outside media (i.e. Cable systems, streaming channels). Write/produce/edit attention-getting news topical promos and special report promos for the Bay Area’s #1 newscasts. Create sponsored sales promos and handle all of the challenges that go with conforming to a client’s wishes. Must be able to work under pressure to produce high quality promotional spots on tight deadlines, both individually and as part of a production team. Requirements: Must possess a working knowledge of The Adobe Suite of editing and design software. (Premiere, After Effects, etc.), and Microsoft Office. Two to four years' experience writing, producing and editing promos in a medium to large market strongly preferred. News promotion experience preferred. College Degree preferred. Videography and lighting skills strongly desired. The perfect applicant would be an idea person who is willing to push the envelope and work well with a team of creative types.
Traffic Assistant/Log Editor
Responsibilities: Strong analytical skills are needed to join this exciting and fast-paced organization. As part of the Commercial Operations team, you will be responsible for configuring, monitoring, analyzing, and optimizing our daily logs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Work with inventory, program formats, process and download Station logs. Back-up other position in the traffic department as needed. Works closely with Local Sales Account Executives, National and Local Sales Assistants, Engineering and Promotion departments. Other duties assigned as deemed necessary and appropriate.
Requirements: Weekends, holidays and varied hours req. Strong and accurate PC and typing skills and data entry experience required. Must be detail oriented. Responsibilities: Candidate will provide administrative support to the KTVU Fox 2 and KICU TV36 Sales management staff and Account Executives. Duties include writing and checking orders, proposals, maintaining organizational systems, general office requirements, and assisting with special projects. Investigate order discrepancies and credit memos. Back up other sales assistants as necessary. Participate in and help with sales coordinated events. News Editor (part time)
RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs functions of a News Video Editor, using non-linear systems by editing raw video to predetermined lengths to tell compelling, understandable and accurate visual stories, following the instructions of producers, writers, reporters, supervisors, etc. Exercise excellent professional judgment based on current broadcast industry video and audio quality and editing standards. Follow station policies regarding journalistic standards of good taste, quality and appropriateness, and alert managers when questions arise regarding any of these concerns. Coordinate editing information with writer, reporter, producer and/or supervisors. Locate, file and computerize archival video. Record video and audio feeds from sources including microwave, satellite, fiber, phone, and other web-based/internet feeds. Make dubs and prepare video for use in-house, in the field and for other related news department purposes. Additional duties assigned as deemed appropriate or necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university preferred with two to four years related experience. Must have experience editing television newscasts. Familiarity with Bit Central, iNews and Edius a plus. Must be able to meet aggressive deadlines while completing high quality edits.
Maintain and improve existing client list and generate new business on our FOX stations and websites in order to generate significant revenue and achieve sales budget. Make presentations to advertising agencies and clients. Responsible for selling sponsorships that may include promotions initiated by sales persons. Compile lists of prospective customers to use as sales leads. This position involves local travel to call on regular and prospective clients.

A Bachelors’ Degree plus four years of major market experience in transactional and online advertising sales is required. Candidate must be proficient in negotiating utilizing Nielsen LPM ratings and qualitative information. Strong communication and presentation skills – both written and oral are required. Major network affiliation is preferred. Candidate must have proven success with generating and maintaining new business and experience with major sports programming sales. Prior experience with Wide Orbit and One Domain is preferred. Candidate must be detail oriented, resourceful, a team player, reliable and a self-starter. Candidate must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Must have or be willing to obtain and drive reliable transportation and have a valid CA driver’s license with a good driving record.
